I was the lead for the world team for Ghost of Tsushima. The world team is responsible for terrain, rocks, lakes, rivers, streams, waterfalls, coast, and roads, as well as the many shrine challenges that can be found in each prefecture. Throughout production, we all shared a variety of world building tasks including the following:
- hand-sculpting terrain to ensure smooth horse navigation and to help guide the player
- constructing cliffs that have a clear visual language for navigation and were minimally obstructive
- adjust widths and adding fords to rivers to clarify crossable vs non-crossable sections
- creating and modifying the flow of the road and path network, aiming for direct roads with a natural feel that helps guide players to content
- integrating open world with locations
